Directions for Entering Harbour

From a position approx. 0.5 nm ENE of the harbour entrance, the line of bearing 242° leads WSW into the approach channel — passing close SSE of the Fairway light buoy (0.3 nm NE, marking the channel entrance), then NNW of the head of the S breakwater and SSE of the buoy 0.075 nm NNW marking the NNW side of the channel, thence SSE of the head of the N breakwater.

Cruise & Passenger Terminal

Larnaca Port accommodates cruise ships through its passenger terminal, operating both Schengen and Non-Schengen. The terminal is used for transit and home-port cruising, with numerous Eastern Mediterranean destinations including overnight sailings.

An agreed loading / unloading plan must be handed to the terminal representative before operations begin. Any changes to the plan must comply with the BLU Code.

Vessel berthing priority applies at all times in accordance with Cyprus Ports Authority Regulations RAA 377/2019 (with reference to RAA 373/2016, paragraphs 47 & 49).

Waste reception facilities are available at the port — at shore by truck and at anchorage by barge.

Safety & Environmental Rules

Entering the Terminal
  • A safety vest must be worn
  • Do not walk under a passing grab unloader
  • Be attentive to sound signals when equipment starts to move
  • Equipment and conveyor belts can start moving suddenly
  • Use only the safest routes when leaving and returning to the vessel
  • Contamination of clothing, footwear and carried goods cannot be completely avoided given the nature of the work
Safe Access to the Vessel
  • Sturdy gangway with handrail, or a ladder with a strong safety net underneath, and a lifebuoy on board at the access point
  • Adequate lighting at the access point
  • Access must not be underneath, or within range of, a moving grab unloader or loading machine
  • Rat guards must be placed on all mooring ropes once the vessel is safely berthed
  • Decks and platforms leading to holds must be well lit, easily accessible, free of obstacles and — where necessary — fitted with sound railings
Hold Requirements
  • Fixed hold ladders fore and aft, safe and well maintained; platform steps minimum 15 mm wide, with railings
  • Hold access via an enclosed shaft, free of noxious gases, with adequate ventilation and lighting
  • Hazardous objects, or objects obstructing discharge, removed or clearly indicated beforehand
  • Minimum 20 lux lighting in the hold
  • Hold floor completely level

Hot Works

Permitted only after written approval from the Cyprus Ports Authority and the HSE manager.

Soot Blowing

Soot blowing alongside the quay is not permitted.

Ballast Water

Only clean ballast water may be pumped into the harbour.

Contaminated Water

Rinsing water from decks, holds or tanks — or any water contaminated with cargo residues — may not be pumped into the harbour.

Waste on Quay

It is strictly forbidden to leave any waste on the quay.

Noise

Ship's officers must limit noise nuisance to a minimum.

Pollution

Any pollution caused in the port area by the client, or a third party associated with the client's activities, must be cleared immediately at the client's sole expense and responsibility.

ISPS Code

  • Visitors such as suppliers and repairmen must be notified in advance by email to the Security Officer and the Cyprus Ports Authority — stating visitor name and ID number, time and reason of arrival, and the kind and quantity of goods — before port entry passes are issued
  • The ship's officer must provide the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) with the crew list, and a new list whenever the crew changes
  • Any other arrangements are agreed between the Ship Security Officer (SSO) and the PFSO
  • The terminal and the vessel may agree to use a Declaration of Security (DoS)
